2018 Bicycle Adventure Summer Camp

2018 Registration is now open for kids 9-11 years old.

WashCo BTC is proud to present its fourth year of Bike Adventure Summer Camps as a way of giving children the gifts of freedom, empowerment and adventure, (much like when you rode your bike for the first time) but with an emphasis on fun and safety skills that will last a lifetime.

Prepared and knowledgeable riders feel more confident in the saddle and their parents feel more secure as their children ride down the road to a friends' house, off to school or striking out on an adventure.

At this fun and informative week long day camp your child will enjoy the outdoors with new friends while learning about the joys and safe riding practices under the instruction of two trained instructors who are  experienced cyclists themselves.

At this camp, your child will learn:

  • safe riding skills,
  • age appropriate rules of the road
  • map reading
  • route planning
  • basic bike safety checklist
  • basic maintenance skills
  • group riding skills
  • and most importantly how much fun it is to ride with family and friends to new places and have new experiences.

The campers can enjoy lunch in a park, map out a route to eat ice cream on a hot day, feed ducks at a local pond, explore new trails, stop for a game of frisbee, all while making new friends.

Parents- Get Ready To RIde

Parents and Grandparents, you are invited to join us for a Family Ride on the last day of Summer Bike Camp.

We want you to see your child in action, showing off the skills he/she has learned during the week. The details of the ride are still in the planning stages but on Friday at noon or 1pm we will meet at the camp base with bikes, helmets, water bottles. The kids will plan out the route- so be prepared for an adventure. Along the way, they may want to stop and explain why it is they do a certain something ie riding single file vs 4 or 5 abreast. Feel free to ask question. Please allow 2 hours for the ride. When we return to the camp base- we will have a short graduation ceremony.

Bike Camp Instructors

We are looking for people who are comfortable riding their bike in traffic, can ride 10-20 miles in a day, and have experience working with youth in these age groups. You and your co-instructor will be responsible for the day to day activities of up to 12 campers, ages 9-11, including teaching a core bike safety curriculum, so you must be self-directed and able to teach in a collaborative setting.

Instructors will be required to successfully complete our "Confidence in Traffic" clinic, or show similar competency, as well as have first aid training and, hopefully, basic bike repair.  You will also be required to know the material contained in our Bike Camp Instructors Manual and the safety curriculum in the Safe Routes to School manual.  We will provide the training and written materials to you.  You will also be required to pass a criminal background check.
